Superload safely arrives at wind farm
A SLOW journey last weekend saw the ‘superload’ transformer arrive safe and sound at the Dundonnell Wind Farm site.
A SLOW journey last weekend saw the ‘superload’ transformer arrive safe and sound at the Dundonnell Wind Farm site.
Departing from Glen Waverley on Wednesday, August 7, the 372-tonne and 82-metre load slowly made its way to the south west at a maximum speed of 25 kilometres per hour.
Travelling through the Camperdown and Cobden area last Saturday night, it made a pitstop near McKinnons Bridge Road on Saturday before completing its final leg through Noorat, Mortlake and Woorndoo during last Saturday evening and Sunday morning.
A Tilt Renewables spokesperson said the transformer would now settle in to its new home at the Dundonnell Wind Farm site.
“The transformer converts the power generated from the wind farm to the required voltage for transmission,” the spokesperson said.
“It will be skated from the truck to its foundation and will stay in this location for the lifetime of the wind farm.”
The weekend operation required five emergency service cars and a number of work crews travel with the ‘superload’ to ensure its safe journey and arrival.
The ‘superload’ was the second of its kind to travel through the region this year, with a 663-tonne load passing through in January bound for Lismore’s Stockyard Hill Wind Farm substation.
