Swans hit the winner’s list
CARAMUT scored its first win of the season in the Mininera senior football competition with a 52 point win over Great Western on Saturday.
After being 12 points down at half-time, and five points up at the last change, the Swans piled on nine goals goals to one in the final term to record a 15.16.106 to 7.12.54 win at the Great Western Recreation Reserve.
“We ran away with it in the last quarter and got the win, which was nice,” Caramut coach Scott Judd said.
“We probably should have put them away in the third quarter, but it was a good game up until half-time in terms of going both ways.”
Switching the magnets around at the main change made a big difference after the even first half.
“We made a few changes at half-time that paid off, a couple of the boys went in different positions and it worked out.
“We got a bit more drive off half back, had a lot more opportunities and in the last quarter we put them through the middle, that ended up being the difference; four or five goals kicked in five or six minutes to start the last and we kept on going from there.”
Captain Charlie Farrer was best for the Swans in the win.
“Charlie was outstanding for all four quarters, it wasn’t just after half time when it was on our terms.
“He kicked a goal or two at the end to top off all his hard work, he was very good through the midfield and set us up with a bit of run and carry.”
Dylan Scoble and Phil Chatfield were also in Caramut’s best.
“Those two boys probably had a bit of a quiet game last week, but Dylan off the half back intercepted a lot of their footy and Phil set us up in the midfield just with his presence and he got a lot of clearances for us.
“They both played really good games, we were pretty happy with their output on the weekend.”
Judd, Damien Wynd and Hamish Pierson kicked three goals each in the win.
Great Western was too strong in the reserves, scoring a 14.9.93 to 4.7.31 win.
Aubrey Watson, Teba Lott and Finn Dennis were best for the Swans reserves in the loss, with Joe Douglas kicking two goals.
In the under 17 football, Great Western won 13.10.88 to 7.5.47.
Spurs Lynch, Samual O’Sullivan and Nathan Mann were best for Caramut, with the Swans having seven individual goalkickers.
Caramut was dominant in the under 13 football, scoring an 18.5.113 to 0.0.0 win.
Arlo McRae, Oliver Russell and Luca Hearne were best for the junior Swans, with McRae kicking six goals and Russell three.
Great Western won the A grade netball 54-42.
Zoe Wagstaff and Kimberley Hannabury were Caramut’s best in the loss, with Wagstaff shooting 26 goals and Maddi Calvert 13.
The B grade game also went the way of Great Western, with the Lions winning 33-31.
April Edwards led the scoring for the Swans with 17 goals and Charlotte Delaney 14, with Delaney and Nada McCarroll best.
In C grade, Caramut had a 36-25 win.
Rachel Hassett scored 24 goals and was named as best along with Hannah Delaney.
Great Western scored a 42-31 win in the 17 and under game, with Marli McRae and Yolie O'Sullivan shooting 12 goals each.
Best for the 17s were centre Grace O’Sullivan and goal defence Lily McCabe.
In the 15 and under game, Caramut had a 43-13 win.
Yolie O’Sullivan and goal keeper Ruby Russell were the Swans best, with Alex Lehmann scoring 19 goals and O’Sullivan 18.
In the 13 and under netball, Great Western won 17-6.
Montana Redmond and Peyton Jones were best for the junior Swans.
With no games in the Mininera league this week, Caramut’s next games are on May 2 against Penshurst at the Caramut Recreation Reserve.
