Swim club future at risk
THE Terang Swim Club is once again facing the threat of closure, with insufficient numbers to form a working committee.
According to member Cindy McDougall, of the current seven committee members, only one has indicate they will remain after the upcoming annual meeting.
“Last year we were lucky to get a full committee, but this year (due to family commitments, relocation, work commitments and illness) only one of the current committee will be staying on,” Ms McDougall said.
“However, a new committee will again receive great support from Swimming Victoria and from past president Lisa Chesshire.
“The Terang club runs a very successful carnival, which attracts competitors from Werribee to the South Australian border and everywhere in between.”
Traditionally, the club has also been well supported by local businesses, both in Terang and Mortlake.
“The club also has a commitment from both the Corangamite and Moyne shires for access to pools to support its swimmers,” Ms McDougall said.
“The committee is only for five months of the year, twice a week on pool deck plus carnival day.
“We have a coach lined up and hope to gain a pool of experienced coaches to give our swimmers the best experience possible.”
Anyone considering joining the committee is urged to attend the club’s annual general meeting.
This will be held at Macs Hotel Mortlake from 7pm on Monday, October 13.
