Running from Saturday, February 1 until Friday, February 28, the Starlight Super Swim is a charity effort put on by the Starlight Foundation to raise money for children in hospital.

As a swimmer of many years, Ray White Rural Timboon owner Gerard Delaney thought his love of swimming could make a difference through fundraising alongside his wife Nikki Delaney, long time friend Jamie Murray and Ray White Rural Timboon operations manager Kate Croft.

“Jamie and I have been swimming all over the world together - that’s how we know each other - and we thought, why not?” Mr Delaney said.

“Kate’s a very good swimmer, and then my wife came along, and now we’re sort of pushing each other along.”

As of Monday, February 10, the group had already achieved nearly 50 kilometres of their 60 kilometres goal for the month.

They have also raised $2856, which is 95 per cent of their $3000 goal, not even two weeks in to February.

The team will be looking to shift their goals, seeing how many kilometres they can reach over the month.

Mr Delaney said they’ve been wowed by the community support.

“We’re flying,” he said.

“The support from the community has been, whoa, it’s unbelievable.

“The Starlight Foundation helps sick children and their families in time of need, so it’s really emotional and a lot of people have supported it, because they’ve obviously been touched by it at some stage.

“People have just come out of the woodwork – they’ve been supported by the Starlight Foundation.

“People that I haven’t even asked have approached me and bang, there’s 100 bucks.”
