MEMBER for Wannon Dan Tehan has officially opened the new community skate park and recreational space at Skipton.
MEMBER for Wannon Dan Tehan has officially opened the new community skate park and recreational space at Skipton.
He said he was delighted the skate park was a priority project for Corangamite Shire Council under the Morrison Governments Local Roads and Community Infrastructure (LRCI) Program funding a contribution of $120,000.
“The skate park provides a multi-discipline street and transition style facility that caters to all user groups including those participating in BMXing, scooter, skateboarding and all other active wheeled sport disciplines,” Mr Tehan said.
He said the skatepark design considers obstacles mainly for beginner to intermediate skill levels however will ensure it provides opportunities for skill progression to more advanced levels of riding.
“Other benefits of this project included jobs being supported during the project, which also helps in rebuilding the local economy,” Mr Tehan said.
“I congratulate not only Corangamite Shire Council in creating this new facility but also all the wonderful volunteers and committee members who have worked so hard to make this project a reality and I look forward to the development of the skate park.”
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Infrastructure, Transport and Regional Development Michael McCormack said the Morrison Government’s $120,000 investment in community infrastructure would provide long-term benefits to the Skipton region.
“Skate parks can often be a real local focal point for younger members of the community, which is why the Morrison Government is very pleased to be delivering one to this important region,” he said.
“This is all about supporting local jobs and the resilience of local economies to help lay the foundations for economic recovery while ensuring communities across the nation bounce back stronger than ever.”
