TDHS welcomes a new therapist
TIMBOON and District Healthcare Service has welcomed a new occupational therapist (OT)
Tarnya Roberts moved to Glenfyne 10 years ago and after completing her schooling at Cobden Technical School she knew she was interested in health, but was not sure which direction to go.
“I’m not good with blood and needles, so an allied health profession made more sense and seeing that my parents had difficulty in getting an occupational therapist to help with my younger brother, who has Aspergers, made me decide to start studying OT at Deakin University in Geelong,” she said.
Mrs Roberts passion for OT grew while studying, helped by interesting placements, after which she knew she made the right choice.
“I’ve been working in the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) space for two years now, mainly in the paediatrics area, but have always been keen to continue to explore different areas in OT,” she said.
One of Mrs Roberts placements was in Horsham and she enjoyed the small town feel and the different demographics within it.
“When I saw that TDHS wanted a part-time OT, I grabbed it with two hands, as I knew it would give me the perfect opportunity to experience the variety I was after,” she said.
