TWO students from Cobden Technical School have performed well at the recent SSV Interschool Athletics Championships.
After strong performances at the inter-school championships in Ballarat on October 5, Rhys Sargood and Jayden Gass both qualified for the SSV event, held in Melbourne last Monday week.
Competing in the under 17 boys high jump event, Jayden finished fourth on a countback.
Rhys, competing in the under 13 category, placed sixth in the high jump, eighth in triple jump, seventh in the 100m and also ran in the 200m event.
Both were challenged on the day by cold, windy conditions which made it tough going on the track.
At the GWR interschool championships in Ballarat on October 5, the conditions were also cold.
Rhys came home with five medals and also broke several athletics records on the day.
He finished first in the under 13 boys’ high jump, triple jump and 100m (breaking new records) along with the 200m event, and finished second (also a new record) in the 400m.
Jayden finished first in the under 17 boys high jump (new record), second in the shot put and fourth in the 100m.
Several other Cobden Technical students also performed well in the Ballarat.
Congratulations also to Brady Fratantaro who finished sixth in the under 16 boys javelin and Tara Watts who finished sixth in the under 18 girls’ shot put.
Abbey Robbins competed in the under 18 girls discus (sixth), long jump (fourth) and 800m (third).
Keegan Brandrup competed in the under 18 boys’ 400m (fifth) and 1500m.
