I’m listening: Member for Wannon Dan Tehan hosted a listening post in Port Campbell on Monday, with more to come for the region this week.

Stationed outside the Port Campbell Post Office on Lord Street, Mr Tehan spoke with residents on a variety of issues including solar power, subdivisions and tourism accommodation.

He said he also received questions around the Labor Government’s taxes on housing, investment and savings and shared plans to address all these issues.

“One of the things that we are looking at is how we can make energy more affordable and better use the existing infrastructure that we have, rather than building more infrastructure,” Mr Tehan said.

“We want to see people paying less tax, not more – that’s a clear commitment that we’ve already made.

“What we’ve got to do for tourism is help with the cost of living because with petrol prices, energy prices and taxes all making it hard for people with cost of living, we’re not seeing people travelling as much as they were.”

Mr Tehan said he felt the listening posts, which have taken him to other areas including Princetown, has been going well.

“For instance, we found out that the general store in Princetown will open on Monday, which is fantastic news for Princetown,” he said.

“We also visited the new Twelve Apostles Visitor Centre, which is more or less ready to open.

“The Coalition gave the state government $64.9 million in 2019 – to see it just about ready to open was also very welcome and we just hope the money has been well spent.”

Mr Tehan will also visit the Cobden (1.15-1.45pm and Timboon (2.45-3.15pm)’s post offices on Thursday, July 23.
