Ten goal haul from Lions
THE Corangamite Lions under 12s made the trip to Ballarat on Sunday and returned home with a memorable 10-2 victory over Ballarat North United SC Grey.
The result was made all the more impressive by the conditions and the circumstances in which it was achieved.
With temperatures dropping and just seven players available at kick-off, the Lions once again showed the heart and determination that has become the hallmark of their 2026 season.
Rather than wilting under the pressure of being shorthanded, the young side dug in and got to work - and when three additional players joined during the first half, the Lions shifted through the gears.
The goals came in abundance, with Hamish Messer putting in a sensational performance to claim seven of the 10, cementing himself as one of the most dangerous young strikers in the competition.
Mateo Boyd, Nate Ahearn and Jay Finlayson each chipped in with a goal apiece to round out the scoresheet.
The result continues what has been a strong first half of the season for the young Lions, who sit fourth on the ladder and have shown tremendous growth over the past two seasons.
The Lions return to Camperdown Showgrounds this Sunday to face Ballarat North United SC White.
