Terang College celebrates Book Week
TERANG College students let their imaginations run wild last week as part of the school’s annual Book Week celebrations.

The Children’s Book Council of Australia has hosted Book Week annually for the past 80 years, in a celebration of the role literacy plays in both development and entertainment for the nation’s youth.
Terang College joined other schools in hosting a dress-up day, in addition to a range of activities celebrating literacy.
Terang College teacher Kylie Morrissy said this year’s theme had captivated students.
“The school was bursting with colour and excitement last week as students from Foundation to Year 12 came together to celebrate the 80th anniversary of Book Week under this year’s theme, Book an Adventure,” she said.
“The much-anticipated parade transformed the hall into a vibrant storybook brought to life, with children proudly showcasing their favourite characters from classic tales and modern favourites.
“From tiny fairies and superheroes to brave adventurers and wizards, the sea of costumes reflected the joy and creativity that Book Week inspires every year.”
Mrs Morrissy said the day had created connections across the wider school community, with staff getting in on the fun and a range of activities awaiting students.
“Adding to the spectacle, teachers set the tone by leading the parade in full costume as beloved characters from The Wizard of Oz,” she said.
“Their lively skit to open the show had students and families alike clapping and cheering, proving that Book Week magic is for all ages.
“Following recess, the celebrations continued with a special workshop led by Collins Booksellers Warrnambool, who brought the shortlisted book Spiro to life.
“Students delighted in a hands-on craft activity, creating their very own magical bugs and spiders spun into glittering webs.
“The store generously donated $10 gift vouchers for a lucky dip, ensuring that every costumed student had the chance to be rewarded for their enthusiasm and creativity.”
Mrs Morrissy said the day surpassed all expectations.
“The day was filled with wonder, laughter and community spirit, leaving no doubt that the 80th anniversary of Book Week was one to remember,” she said.
“With hearts still brimming from this year’s adventure, we eagerly look ahead to 2026, when the theme ‘Symphony of Stories’ will invite students and staff to once again step into the enchanting world of books.”
