THE Terang and District Lions Club has welcomed Wayne Saunders as its newest president.
Mr Saunders was named president at the recent Terang and District Lions Changeover, among a healthy crowd of guests and members.
Special guests were Warrnambool Lions Club member Sue Amos, who spoke on the great success of the Lions Club Primary School eyesight testing program which is being implemented across local schools.
Corangamite Shire deputy mayor Geraldine Conheady also spoke, highlighting the many strengths the shire possesses.
Warrnambool Lions club member and former Terang Lions Club member inducted new office bearers for the next 12 months, and congratulated outgoing president Kerrin McKenzie on the club’s achievement during the past 12 months.
Mr Saunders said at the forefront of his leadership wOULD be an attempt to grow the membership base, which is currently around 30, and hopefully inject some youth in to the ranks.
“Trying to get new members will be our main goal,” he said.
“We really want to try and get some younger members but it’s a difficult thing.”
Mr Saunders said the Terang and District Lions Club was always working to try and better Terang, and felt being a member was a rewarding experience.
He said the club has ambitions of expanding the Terang Caravan Park, but he felt such a lofty goal would be difficult to reach without new members.
“When Apex folded we carried over the caravan park, we’re looking to try to expand the caravan park,” Mr Saunders said.
“That’s our big goal but it’s no good without new members.”
Mr Saunders encouraged prospective members to reach out to any Lions member to learn more about joining.
“It’s a great organisation to support the town,” he said.
