President of the Terang Swim Club and secretary of the Terang Pool Committee Gabby Sachs-Bellman said it had been a strong start to the year for the pool, with plenty of swimmers racking up the numbers in the lap challenge.

The 2025/2026 Terang Pool Lap Challenge has been running since November 22 and finishes on March 15.

Swimmers aim to complete laps for their age group, earning a lap challenge t-shirt on completion.

Categories include junior (primary years-500 laps) and open age (1000 laps).

“We started the lap challenge to coincide with the 2025-2026 pool season,” Ms Sachs-Bellman said.

“There has been a Zooper Dooper and t-shirt reward for primary swimmers, with 25 laps for prep to Year three, Year four-six who got 50 laps and a junior t-shirt reward for the Prep to Year six who did 500 laps.

“We also had t-shirt prize for a senior who did 1000 laps.

“Congratulations to Colin Edgecomb, the first open swimmer to achieve 1000 laps and to Ruby Ferrier on completing 500 laps in the primary age group.

“We’ve had two adults and a child get the t-shirt rewards already.”

Ms Sachs-Bellman said the season has been off to a strong start thanks to a consistent flow of swimmers getting out to beat the heat.

“The season is going well, it’s pretty consistent with some nice days lately,” she said.

“Hopefully it continues.”

With a few more weeks still remaining in the season there is still plenty of time to join the lap challenge at the Terang Pool.

“We’ve got a few swimmers who are nearly there to get their lap rewards, so we encourage everyone to get down there and get their laps up,” Ms Sachs-Bellman said.

“Push your limits in the pool and hopefully the weather will continue.”
