The fleece will fly
THE always-popular shearing and wool handling competition will once again be part of Sheepvention for 2026.

According to convenor Peter Guthrie, this event has developed over the past few years and is now highly regarded as one of the ‘must see’ activities for Sheepvention visitors young and old.
“The committee felt that an event such as Sheepvention was the perfect outlet to represent the shearing and wool preparation component of the industry,” he said.
“This will be held in the Merino judging pavilion and will be conducted as part of Sportshear Victoria’s state program of competitions.”
The event will run on Sunday, August 2 and will cover all sections of both shearing and wool handling, from notice right through to the open division.
“Once again the event has attracted excellent levels for competition,” Mr Guthrie said.
“Successful competitors from the past have since moved on to state level championships and even International competitions.
“The competitive atmosphere and excitement in the pavilion provides great entertainment for viewers.”
The program for Monday, August 3 has been designed to display future career options in the wool industry.
Training providers will be on hand to conduct programs to demonstrate shearing, wool handling and wool classing.
These programs will be open to anyone interested in joining the industry, or wanting to improve their skill level as more experienced workers.
Entries for the shearing and wool handling competitions can be made on the Sheepvention web site or through the Sportshear website.
The inventions exhibition can be found in the Ram Shed.
