Mr Caruana first took to photography as a child, with his father introducing him to the artform.

He said he enjoys using photography to create and has been taking photos for more than 55 years.

“I enjoy catching the image, looking at the world around me and taking the opportunity to capture that for everybody else to see,” Mr Caruna said.

“Photography is my area where I can create. Photography allows me to capture the moment, there and then – I don’t edit my photography, I don’t manipulate it on the computer.

“What you see is what I saw; I’m very old-school like that. I still use film on occasion, and I really enjoy shooting in black and white.

“I enjoy black and white because it makes you think a little bit more about the image, and it shows shadow and the different effects of light more.”

Mr Caruana’s works feature portrait-oriented photos conveyed through monochrome, as well as coloured photographs of various locations within the Corangamite Shire.

He said he had spent many years developing what he called his ‘eye’ for photo opportunities.

“It’s been a great therapy for me using creativity around some of my mental health issues – that’s really important for me,” Mr Caruana said.

“I went through a period when I lost my creative spark but, when I moved down here four years ago, the location is such a beautiful place that I very quickly got my spark back.

“The whole volcanic lakes and craters area is pretty special. I love it.”

Mr Caruana’s photographs will be displayed in the Courthouse, Camperdown at 179 Manifold Street.

He said the works on display shows a range of his works and reflects his style, and hopes the community enjoys the works displayed.

“Thank you for visiting the Courthouse and supporting all the amazing creative people in the Corangamite Shire,” Mr Caruana said.

“It is a wonderful feeling to be part of this community.”
