Three Cobden sides make finals

COBDEN Bowling Club has managed to get three teams into the finals race.

With all three in danger of going out in straight sets, it will be interesting to see which teams can stand up to the pressure of finals bowls.

The final round of midweek pennant has been completed.

Cobden’s divisionone side finished fifth to miss the finals after being defeated by City 66/75.

There is a clear delineation between the top and bottom four in division one, however this creates a goal to work towards for the team.

Ann Scoot, Trevor Roberts Bert Strampel and Doreen Coverdale were narrowly defeated 20/24 by R.McMahon, P. Howard, V. Brown and G. Gillespie.

Margaret Hester, Bazil Hammond, Elaine Telford and Loreign Andrews were defeated by L. Inglis, S. Trigg, G. Theodore and T. Hegedus 24/29.

Peter Richardson, Sue Couch, Colin Whiteside and Brian Howard came a draw with C. Hanson, S. Fanelli, B. Whittaker and S. Kirby.

Division two were defeated by ladder leaders Colac 2, 68/86, which disappointingly pushed them to seventh place and will be relegated to division three next season.

Claire Reynolds, Colin Spokes, David Luker and Des Couch lost 24/32 to K. Ezard, G. Brown, S. Rooke and D. Mackay.

Janelle Rohan, Paul Dwyer, Evelyn Grayland and David Childs won 26/21 over K. Burrell, L. Rich, N. Quigley and N. Thompson.

Joy Beaton, Kath Spokes, Ken Lynch and Patsy Neal lost 18/33 to D. Hutchinson, R. Hutchinson, H. Ezard and C. Charity.

The final round has also been completed in the weekend pennant, with fourth placed Apollo Bay winning all four rinks to have a shock win over Cobden at Cobden’s home green 109/86.

They will have to face off again next week in the quarter final, at a venue yet to be decided.

Noah Mungean, Greg Rooke, Kathryn Robertson and Bazil Hammond lost 22/28 to D. Hand, B. Finnigan, P. Telford and A. Rowarth.

Darren Mulgrew, Colin Hammond, Murray Williamson and Tom Robertson lost 21/25 to L. Redman, R. Scott, L. Thomas and G. Harrison.

Nick Kemp, Terry Beasley, Peter Richardson and Brendan Hutt lost 20/32 to R. Lennie, B. Munro, S. King and A. Crouch.

Ben Robertson, Ash Sinnott, Brendan Hammond and Lachie Taylor lost 23/24 to S. Kent, B. Kent, M. Hall and D. Maiden.

In division three, Simpson showed its dominance to defeat Cobden 83/65, pushing Cobden down to fourth place.

Bert Strampel, Janelle Rohan, Jeff Hester and Brian Howard defeated A. Swayn, S. Ackerley, G. Langenhauizen and M. Gass 25/9.

David Staggard, Leon Carrigan, Garry Matheson and Geoff Ovens lost 13/25 to B. Newcombe, B. Newcombe, A. Beasy and B. Newcombe.

Richard McVilly, Ken Lynch, Colin Spokes and David Luker went down 18/22 to R. Yendall, L. Neale, G. Simpson and K. Woodmason.

Trevor Roberts, Colin Whiteside, Kath Spokes and Keith Lander lost 9/27 to M. Seabrook, T. Harris, C. Dixon and H. Hayden.

Cobden will be playing Colac 3 in the quarter final.

Division four made the trip to Winchelsea and put on a strong showing to just go down 59/52.

They are still in fourth place and will play Colac 5 in the first final.

Claire Reynolds, Joy Beaton, John Raeside and Ken Farquharson lost 14/20 to C. Williams, P. Mawson, C. Wojtowicz and D. Mayall.

Paul Dwyer, Elaine Telford, Doreen Coverdale and Peter Giblett defeated R. O’Brien, E. O’Brien, R. Knuckey and M Drayton 21/19.

Evelyn Grayland, Loreign Andrews, Des Couch, and Janine Hutt lost 17/20 to G. Orchard. J. Knuckey, R. Erwin and K. McDonald.
