Three-way tie for Tigers top award

AN exciting three-way tie in the division one Cricketer of the Year award has highlighted Simpson Cricket Club’s end of season presentation night.

First year captain Jackson Rock, recruit Malluwa Wadu Chathura and young batting all-rounder Tanner Fratantaro all finished equal on 14 votes to jointly take out the club’s highest on-field honour.

Wadu made 407 runs at 58.14 to take out the batting average and aggregate awards, as well as taking 13 wickets.

Fratantaro was second in the run scorers with 257, with Rock making 160 runs and taking 15 wickets at 24.53 to take out the bowling aggregate and average awards.

Another player in his first season at Simpson, Shaun Baines, took out the division two Cricketer of the Year award with 16 votes.

Baines made 202 runs and took 15 wickets in his first season since crossing from the Forrest CC.

Opener Joe Cain won the batting aggregate award with 243 runs, with Jonno Jennings winning the batting average, his 195 runs coming at 24.38.

Liam Ackerley took out both division two bowling awards for his 17 wickets at 10.35.

Long serving Tiger Adrian Fratantaro took out the division three Cricketer of the Year award and the batting awards with 134 runs at 33.50.

Junior player Noah Deppeler, with 15 wickets at 8.27, took out the division three bowling awards.

Olly Ferrari won the division three captains award, with Fin Mahoney winning the division three encouragement award.

Another junior in Xander Weel won the division three Spirit of Cricket award.

Star all-rounder Shae DeFrancesco dominated the awards for Simpson’s women’s team, winning the Cricketer of the Year award with 24 votes, the batting awards with 235 runs at 58.75, the bowling awards with 27 wickets at 3.44, and was named the senior club champion player.

Kelsey Fratantaro took out the women’s coaches award, with April Angus winning the women’s captains award.

For the Tigers’ under 14 boys, Fin Mahoney won the batting aggregate with 204 runs, with Archer Crole taking out the bowling aggregate with nine wickets.

Josh Vines won the under 14 encouragement award, while Harry Vogels won a ball mounted trophy for his hat-trick against Apollo Bay in round three.

Tom Weel took out the club’s most prestigious off-field award, winning the Dave Newton Best Clubman award.
