Tigers back on winners list

WOORNDOO Mortlake’s senior footballers are now sitting in the top five thanks to a 69-point win over SMW Rovers last weekend.

Round three of Mininera League action saw the Tigers head to Conna Wilson Reserve.

Keen to get back on the winners’ list after the previous week’s narrow three-point loss to Hawkesdale Macarthur, the Tigers started strong, kicking 4.5 in the opening term while containing the home side to three majors.

By the half-time break the Tigers had extended their lead to 25 points.

A relatively even third term saw the Tigers head into the final quarter with a handy 31-point lead, which was extended to 69 by the final siren thanks to a seven goal last quarter.

Final scores were Woorndoo Mortlake 17.20.122 to SMW Rovers 8.5.53.

Matthew Pemberton kicked five goals for the Tigers while Jordan Buckley added four and James Coghlan West three.

Tyler Humphrey booted two goals for the day while Jesse Horan, Damien Pemberton and Will Templeton each contributed one.

Best for the Tigers were Jesse Horan, Matthew Pemberton, Mac Shaw, Jack Richie, Haydn Templeton and Kane Killen.

Earlier in the day the Tigers’ reserves, currently sixth on the league ladder, added win number three to the board, defeating Rovers by 22 points.

Final scores were Woorndoo Mortlake 8.16.64 to SMW Rovers 6.6.42.

Best for the Tigers were Tahi Pompey, James Henry, Rhys Casson, Jackson Rock, Joshua Mahncke and Tipa Brown.

Pompey kicked four goals for the day, while Tipa Brown and Jackson Rock each added three to the board.

Netball

A grade – Woorndoo Mortlake defeated SMW Rovers 51-32. Best players: Ashlea Spokes and Sadie Lienert.

B grade – Woorndoo Mortlake defeated SMW Rovers 43-22. Best: Sara Kosch.

C grade – Woorndoo Mortlake defeated SMW Rovers 34-20. Best: Sarah Lomas and Letitia Howat.

18 and under – Woorndoo Mortlake defeated SMW Rovers 51-22.

15 and under – Woorndoo Mortlake defeated SMW Rovers 25-12. Best: Ava Wardlaw and Chloe McQualter.

13 and under – Woorndoo Mortlake defeated SMW Rovers 10-2. Best: Ivy Wardlaw and Billie Carmody.

This weekend will see Woorndoo Mortlake at home to Great Western.
