Tigers chase their tails

AFTER a scoreless first quarter, the Tigers found themselves chasing their tails against Lismore Derrinallum last weekend.
Kicking into a strong breeze in the first quarter, Woorndoo Mortlake found it difficult to convert while the Demons, in front of a home crowd, added five goals nine to the scoreboard.
Aided by the wind in the second term, the Tigers managed five goals one to the Demons’ one goal one in the second quarter to be just 15 points down at the main break.
Conditions again favoured the home side in the third, and the Demons took full advantage of scoring opportunities – adding three majors while restricting the Tigers to just one behind.
“We were playing catch-up from the first quarter,” Tigers coach Tyson Hogan said.
“But you can’t just blame the wind for poor kicking. We had opportunities but didn’t capitalise."
“We had a big portion of our seniors out but to those who did play, credit to them for their efforts.”
Hogan said Saturday’s defeat was certainly a “frustrating” and disheartening one – it was one the Tigers were keen to win in the run home.
“Full credit to Lismore Derri, they took advantages of their opportunities and played the ball well,” Hogan said.
“We got too caught up in the conditions and then relied on the wind to get us back into the game, which, naturally, didn’t happen.”
With only four rounds remaining before the start of finals, Hogan believes his side has the ability to win – but getting the majority of the playing group to training and available on Saturday was proving a big task.
“Hopefully we can get a good chunk of our senior players back this week for our home game against the Bombers,” Hogan said.
“We’re now sitting in fourth and have the chance to play finals. Every game counts from here in. Hopefully the outcome will be a better one this Saturday.”
Final scores last Saturday were Woorndoo Mortlake 9.6.60 lost to Lismore Derrinallum 10.11.71.
Goal scorers were Jordan Buckley (4), Jesse Horan (2), Richard McCormick, William Paulin and Sam Uwland.
Best for the Tigers were William Paulin, Sam Gervasoni, Henry Maconochie, Sam Uwland, Haydn Templeton and Cameron Howland.
The Tigers’ reserve side also had a tough day out, going down by 16 points – 7.7.49 to 10.5.65.
Best for the Tigers were Mitch Walsh, Byron Loader, Rhys Casson, Jack Osborne, Tyne Anderson and William Kosch.
Goal kickers: Rhys Casson (2), Brody Mifsud (2), Jack Osborne (2) and Byron Loader.
