Tigers fall short in final
DERRINALLUM fell short in last Saturday’s Grenville Cricket Association senior grand final, going down to Linton by 22 runs.
Tigers skipper Ned Uren won the toss and sent Linton in to bat at the Rokewood Recreation Reserve, the Blues making 9/192 from their 40 overs.
“Their top order batted really well and got away from us a bit,” Uren said.
“Rory Fisher in particular batted extremely well, he didn’t look like getting out until we were able to run him out.”
Fisher top scored with 66 from 90 balls, hitting seven boundaries and a six.
The Derrinallum bowlers were able to fight back, Rokewood, at one stage 2/136 from 29 overs, losing seven wickets and scoring 48 runs in the last 11 overs.
“Our bowling was generally pretty good, Hunter Thompson came back and bowled really well in his second spell and picked up some crucial wickets.”
Thompson led the bowlers with 3/37 from eight overs, with Karan Brar, Deepak Kumar and Ben Carr taking a wicket each.
Uren was dismissed off the first ball of Derrinallum’s innings, before Karan Brar and Dale Hose put on 55 for the second wicket.
Brar made 37 from 42 balls, hitting seven boundaries, with Hose scoring 36 from 68.
The Tigers lost wickets at regular intervals, despite Gurwinder Samra scoring 37 off 28 and Paul Brisbane 23 from 29.
“Samra came out and hit the ball really hard, we still had some hope while he was going.”
Samra hit three sixes and two fours in his cameo innings, being the 10th and final wicket to fall with the score on 170.
“We had several batters make good starts, we really just needed one player to go on with it like Fisher did for Linton.”
Losing the grand final for a second consecutive season is a bitter pill to swallow for Uren and his team.
“It doesn’t get any easier that’s for sure, we’re all pretty disappointed.
“But the club is in really good shape with making it this far two seasons in a row and the great success our two junior teams have had.”
