WOORNDOO Mortlake’s finals campaign continues this weekend, with seven of its eight sides still in the hunt for premiership glory.

While the club’s B grade netballers’ campaign ended in last Sunday’s semi-final, the remaining teams will contest this Saturday’s preliminary finals at Ararat (with the 18 and under netballers straight through to the grand final after a win last Saturday).

The Tigers’ senior footballers hung on for a well-fought 27-point victory over Glenthompson Dunkeld in Sunday’s first semi-final at Derrinallum.

An 18-point lead at the main break spurred the Tigers on in the second half, adding four goals nine to the board to take the win, 9.15.69 to 5.12.42.

They will now face neighbours Wickliffe Lake Bolac in this weekend’s preliminary final at Ararat.

The game is expected to be another close one, with the Tigers hoping to turn the tables on the Magpies following an eight-point loss in the qualifying final.

Best for the Tigers last weekend were Liam Cameron, Thomas Gough, Tyler Fowler, James Coghlan West, Simon Atkinson and Jack Spokes.

Grant Cameron booted three majors for the day and was well supported by team-mates Jack Spokes with two and singles from Jordan Buckley, James Coghlan West and Damien Pemberton.

A 65-point win over SMW Rovers last weekend earnt the Tigers’ reserves a spot in this Saturday’s preliminary final where they will face Ararat on their home ground.

Mac Shaw, Ben Makepeace, Tyson Osborne, Teba Lott, Justin Snow and Bryce Meekes were in the best for the Tigers while Makepeace (4), Lott (3), Snow (3), Tyne Anderson (2), Shaw and Mitch Walsh added to the board.

The Tigers’ 18 and under netballers shot themselves through to the grand final with a well-played 37-27 goal win over Caramut in last Saturday’s second semi-final.

Mia Richie and Lucy Barry were named best for the Tigers.

And in other second semi-final netball matches on Saturday, results were as follows:

15 and under – Woorndoo Mortlake lost to Penshurst 29-31. Best for the Tigers: Lucy Carmody and Maddison Cameron.

13 and under – Woorndoo Mortlake lost to Glenthompson Dunkeld (in extra time) 34-33. Best players: Ella McDonald and Indi Wardlaw.

B grade – Woorndoo Mortlake lost to Tatyoon 27-29. Best: Jaime Killen and Brooke Eldridge.

C grade – Woorndoo Mortlake defeated Ararat 25-23. Best: Melanie Dyson and Lucy Finnerty.
