the match at the Derrinallum Recreation Reserve, with a strong bowling performance from the Tigers restricting Haddon to 6/111 from their 40 overs.

“Our bowling was probably the key to the game,” Derrinallum captain Ned Uren said.

“We’re not necessarily taking any more wickets than we used to, but we are bowling a heap more dot balls and making it a lot more challenging for our opposition.”

Gurwinder Samra led the Derrinallum attack, taking 3/19 from eight overs with the new ball.

“Gurwinder was really good.

“He got a caught behind and caught in the slips and a bowled, so all good dismissals.”

The team’s bowling effort was pleasing for the Derrinallum skipper.

“Everyone bowled pretty tight all the way through,” Uren said.

“Max Uren only went for 12 off eight overs, he was really good again and Deepak Kumar as well, he was pretty good with his spin.”

Kumar took 0/23 from eight overs, while Karan Brar took 2/25 from eight.

The run chase was hard work for Derrinallum, passing Haddon’s score in the 38th over six wickets down.

“The last couple of weeks we had early collapses, so I think for our top order to get to drinks, one or two down at the max, it sets us up a lot better.

“So I think we definitely were batting a bit slower than we probably had to, but it was important to save a few wickets in the tank for later on.”

Brar top scored with 48 from 61 balls, including seven boundaries.

“Karan started slow and then he started hitting a lot of boundaries towards the end.

“Dale Hose came in at number three, he did his role and just made sure we were one down at drinks.”

Hose made a patient 25 from 83 balls.

“We just made sure we had a lot of wickets in reserve going into the last 20 overs.”

Derrinallum’s first win over Haddon for five years was a big boost heading into finals.

“It was a huge win.

“It definitely wasn’t expected but it was very good for us; Rokewood, who were on the bottom, beat Carranballac and that, along with our win, helped us finish second.”

This week’s semi-final sees Derrinallum host Carranballac at the Derrinallum Recreation Reserve.

Derrinallum’s juniors continue to thrive, with both the Tigers under 16s and under 12s through to their respective grand finals.

In the under 16 semi-final at Derrinallum, the home team had a 42 run win over Rokewood.

Eddie Gellie with 24 from 26 balls and Neave Thompson with 22 from 42 balls led Derrinallum to 5/103 batting first.

Rokewood was well restricted in reply, scoring 4/61 with Eddie Gellie taking 2/6 from five overs.

In this week’s under 16 grand final Derrinallum will play Linton.

In the under semi-final on Friday night, Derrinallum had a 58 run win over Lismore at Derrinallum.

Eddie Gellie smashed 49 from 12 balls with three fours and six sixes in the junior Tigers’ 158 from 20 overs.

Lismore replied with 100 from its 20 overs.

William Turner took 3/2 from two overs, with Patrick Henderson, Campbell Henderson and Emmett Henderson taking two wickets each.

Tonight’s under 12 grand final sees Derrinallum play Carranballac at Derrinallum.
