WOORNDOO Mortlake footballer Wayne Loader has taken to the field with Vic Country in this week’s AFL Masters National Carnival.
The carnival, currently being played at Maroochydore on the Gold Coast, once again attracted more than 60 teams from across Australia.
Wayne is playing in the men’s over 50s division three side and has also filled in for the men’s 45’s division two team, and has won both games.
“This is the first time Wayne has played in the Vic Country team and is absolutely loving it,” wife Larnie Loader said.
“A friend of his, Rod Smith, asked him to play.
“Wayne has been playing with the Ballarat Masters this year in a competition that attracts players from all over the state who compete every second Sunday; they also train every Wednesday in Ballarat.”
Players at the Masters National Carnival compete in several age groups, ranging from the over 35s to the over 65s.
To be eligible to compete, players must turn 35 or older in the current year of competition.
This year’s carnival began last Sunday and will conclude this Saturday.
Timboon footballers Troy Tickner and Josh Drysdale are also representing Vic Country at the event.
As of Tuesday, results for Vic Country included:
Round 1 – Vic Country over 40s defeated Queensland 69-15.
Vic Country over 45s division one defeated Tasmania 62-38.
Vic Country over 45s division two defeated Norther Territory 71-17.
Round two was scheduled to be played yesterday (Wednesday) with the third and final round scheduled for later this week.
