Tigers hit the turf

DERRINALLUM registered a five wicket win over Carranballac in round 16 of the Grenville Cricket Association senior competition.

The match, played on the turf wicket at Tatyoon, marked the Tigers first turf wicket appearance since 2007.

Winning the toss, Derrinallum captain Ned Uren sent Carranballac in, with the Koalas bowled out for 80 in 35.3 overs.

“The wicket looked a bit sticky when we got there so it was an easy decision to send them in,” Uren said.

“It did dry up by the time we batted so we definitely had the best of the conditions.”

Max Uren led the Tigers bowling with 4/20 from eight overs.

“Max was unlucky, he had a dropped catch when he was on four wickets.

“Everyone did their job, Hunter Thompson was very impressive with the new ball, Deepak Kumar varied his pace very well with his left arm spin.”

Thompson took 1/15 from eight overs, while Kumar took 2/11 from eight.

In reply, Derrinallum slumped to 5/39 before passing the score in the 35th over without further loss.

Ben Carr with 23 not out from 47 balls and Gurwinder Samra with an unbeaten 17 from 75 balls got the Tigers over the line, while Dale Hose had earlier made 20 from 57 balls.

“We struggled early which was a bit worrying, Dale did a great job of slowing things down and steadying the ship.

“We don’t really get a chance to play on turf so it was something we really enjoyed.”

In tomorrow’s final round, third placed Derrinallum play the unbeaten Haddon at Derrinallum.

“It was a good win to cement our finals position, we need to keep that momentum going now.”

In the under 16s, Derrinallum had a 28 run win over Rokewood at Rokewood.

Batting first, the Tigers made 2/112 from their 25 overs led by 34 to Charles Turner and 28 to Fletcher Greig.

Rokewood replied with 6/84, with Alexander Cronly taking 2/7 from four overs.

The two teams will meet again in tomorrow morning’s semi-final at Derrinallum.

Derrinallum’s under 12s had the bye last Friday and in tonight’s semi-final will play Lismore at Derrinallum.
