Tigers in the hunt
WOORNDOO’S division three cricketers will begin their finals campaign in the South West Association this weekend.
The Tigers, who finished the home and away season in fourth spot on the league ladder with five wins and three losses, will face Heytesbury Storm Blue this Saturday.
The must-win semi-final match will take place at the Timboon Recreation Reserve from 11.30am.
The Tigers finished the home and away rounds on a high last weekend with a solid performance over bottom-side the Cobden Knights.
After winning the toss and electing to bat, the Tigers made 5/157 in their 40 overs, with opener Damien Clifford top scoring on 45.
He was well supported by Sam Mahncke (31), middle order batsman Rhys Casson (20) and fellow opener Brendan Mahncke (15).
In reply, Cobden Knights reached 7/84 after 21 overs.
Best of the bowlers for the Tigers were Damien Clifford 3/10 off five overs, Greg Parry 2/13 from five, Sam Mahncke 1/11 and Rhys Casson 1/29.
Last weekend marked the end of the season for Woorndoo’s division one side, finishing bottom of the league ladder with just the one win.
Last weekend they travelled to Cobden to take on the Knights.
The home side reached 8/265 in 50 overs while restricting the Tigers to 10/95 in the 29th over.
Best with the bat for the Tigers were captain Tyler Mungean (36), Lachlan Jubb (16) and Thomas Gray (12).
Mungean was also most effective with the ball, finishing the day with figures of 4/44 from 10 overs.
