Tigers netballers finals bound
WOORNDOO Mortlake will host league powerhouse Tatyoon this weekend.

WOORNDOO Mortlake will host league powerhouse Tatyoon this weekend.
The last round of the Mininera home and away season will be an important one for the Tigers who currently have three sides in the top five of their respective ladders, and a junior side just one game out.
While A grade is unable to sneak in to the finals race, B grade currently sits comfortably in third and C grade’s finals hopes may rest on this weekend’s results.
The C grade ladder has Ararat (3rd), Woorndoo Mortlake (4th) and Lismore Derrinallum (5th) all on 40 points and separated only by percentage, while Glenthompson Dunkeld is just one game behind (but with a higher percentage) on 6th.
This weekend the Tigers will face 2nd placed Tatyoon for the first time this season, Ararat take on eighth-placed Hawkesdale Macarthur, Lismore Derrinallum will host Great Western (9th) while Glenthompson Dunkeld will play Moyston Willaura (10th).
After a successful season on-court, the Tigers’ 17 and under side is sitting on top of the ladder while the young 13 and under team is sixth, just one game behind Moyston Willaura in fifth.
In the 13s competition, the Pumas will face fourth-placed Glenthompson Dunkeld – and should the Pumas lose (and the Tigers defeat Tatyoon), the 13s will most likely play finals next weekend.
“It’s an exciting time for our club,” senior coach and joint netball co-ordinator Kate Jubb said.
“B grade and our 17s will both play finals, and C grade and 13s will come down to this weekend’s results.”
Reflecting on last weekend’s round against Hawkesdale Macarthur, Jubb said she was proud of the efforts of her senior sides, particularly given injury and unavailability resulted in reduced numbers.
“We had several of our B grade girls playing a second game, up in A grade, and to their credit they all performed really well,” Jubb said.
“The A grade match was always going to be a tough one against the Eagles, who sit second on the ladder, but the girls did really well to stay with them for most of the game but when the rain came they adjusted better and took off.”
Final scores in the A grade game were 37-58. Best for the Tigers were Nicole Anderson and Elise Killen.
B grade enjoyed a close battle with the Eagles, putting in a strong four-quarter effort to take the win by two goals, 40-38.
Best for the Tigers were Nicole Anderson and WhaWhaKiTeRangiHapuku.
C grade kept its finals hopes alive with a solid 38-14 goal win. Olivia Loader and Ash Ranken were named best on court.
And in the junior games, the 17 and unders won 35-16 putting them a game clear of second-placed Penshurst.
The 15 and under team was defeated 13-22 with Ava Wardlaw named best for the Tigers while the 13 and under side enjoyed a comfortable 27-4 goal win (Indi Wardlaw and Layla Wardlaw best for the Tigers).
