Tigers remain undefeated
WOORNDOO/Mortlake remains undefeated after scoring a 49 point win over Glenthompson/Dunkeld in Saturday’s Mininera District senior football match.
The Tigers led all day to record a 14.13.97 to 7.6.48 win at the Dunkeld Recreation Reserve.
But the win came at a cost, with the visitors suffering serious injuries to Tim Rhook, Damien Pemberton and Ethan Mayhew, playing much of the game with just 18 players.
“We got it done with not even one on the bench this time, so the boys just keep showing how tough they can be, they just get it done, which is very pleasing,” Woorndoo Mortlake coach Tom Ludeman said.
“It just goes to show how such a challenging game it is, you’re on a roll, flying, and then you get three injuries, but we made it work.”
Key forward Jordan Buckley again stood up, kicking four goals, as did Matthew Pemberton.
“Jordan’s great, he’s just opportunistic, every chance he gets he makes something happen, he’s good to have on the team for sure.
“Matty Pemberton again hit the scoreboard, we know what he can do, he’s damaging week in, week out, very reliable.”
Simon Atkinson stood up when ruckman Rook was injured, and was the Tigers best.
“When Timmy Rook went down in the first quarter, we were a bit light on for height, so we gave Simon the task of rucking and he was more than happy to do it.
“And he played one of the best games I’ve seen him play, he was brilliant, his second, third efforts after the ruck contest, that’s what really set us apart.”
Hugh Fleming and Kane Killen were also in the Tigers best.
“Hughie is just a good footballer, gets his job done off half back week in, week out, the back six alone could have all been in our best, they’ve been unstoppable this year.
“Kane is just a young gun, he could go anywhere, just a talented young footballer, with his leg speed and kicking and light feet around stoppages, he’s hard to stop.”
This week the Tigers host a much-improved Caramut outfit.
“I'm pretty excited for this one too.
“I know Caramut has improved, they had to with how they’ve recruited, it should be a good clash back at home, but I back our boys in.”
In the reserves, Woorndoo/Mortlake made it two in a row with a 9.4.58 to 3.6.24 win.
Tyne Anderson, Tom Carmichael and Chris Crawley kicked two goals each, with Hugo Stockman, Nicholas Hausler and Brent Fedley best in the win.
In the under 17 football Glenthompson/Dunkeld scored a 13.12.90 to 1.0.6 win.
Elijah Bradbury, Mason Crawley and Mason Dale were best for Woorndoo/Mortlake, with Bradbury kicking the only goal.
In the under 13 football, Woorndoo/Mortlake had a 3.0.18 to 2.2.14 win.
Best for the Tigers were Sam McCorkell, Oliver Harris and Jack Allen, with Zac Dolling kicking two goals and McCorkell one.
Glenthompson/Dunkeld took out the A grade netball with a 36-21 win.
Ash Spokes was best for Woorndoo/Mortlake in the loss, and led the scoring with 14 goals.
Glenthompson/Dunkeld also took out the B grade netball with a 37-27 win.
Kristy Crawley and Holly Trajcevski were best for Woorndoo/Mortlake, with Brooke O'Brien shooting 11 goals and Crawley 10.
In C grade, Glenthompson/Dunkeld had a 32-14 win.
Chelsea McCosh shot 11 goals and was best for the Tigers.
The 17 and under netball saw Glenthompson/Dunkeld scored a 54-12 win.
Reagan Mifsud and Ava Wardlaw were Woorndoo/Mortlake’s best, with Ava shooting eight goals.
Glenthompson/Dunkeld registered a 37-21 win in the 15 and under game.
Ivy Wardlaw scored 10 goals, with Ivy Wardlaw and Ashlee Killen named as best.
In the 13 and under game, Glenthompson/Dunkeld scored a 19-14 win.
Arya Bouchier and Paige Maddock were the best for the junior Tigers, with Paige Maddock shooting 10 goals.
