Round nine saw the Tigers take on the Bombers at Mortlake’s DC Farran Oval in what became wet and slippery conditions.
The home side got off to a quick start in the opening term, kicking four goals four while keeping the Bombers scoreless.
The Tigers’ momentum continued in the second, going into the half-time break with a handy 34-point lead and restricting the visitors to just one behind for the half.
The third quarter saw the Tigers make good use of the ball in their forward 50, adding four majors to the scoreboard.
Despite not scoring in the final term, the Tigers ran home 40-point victors in wintery conditions.
Final scores were Woorndoo Mortlake 9.9.63 to Penshurst 3.5.23.
Best for the Tigers were Thomas Gough, Liam Cameron, Jesse Johnson, Tyson Hogan, William Paulin and Sam Gervasoni.
Jesse Horan kicked three goals for the Tigers while James Coghlan West and Matthew Pemberton both added two, and Tyson Osborne and William Paulin contributed one apiece.
In the reserves, the Tigers also dominated the ground, winning 13.16.94 to 4.3.27 and holding on to top spot on the Mininera ladder.
Father and son Wayne and Byron Loader booted three goals each for the home side, while Tyne Anderson added two goals and Tom Carmichael, Luke Osborne, Mac Shaw and Justin Snow added one each.
Best for the Tigers in a great team effort were Justin Snow, Mac Shaw, Xavier Glossop, Andrew Hearne, Tom Carmichael and Tyne Anderson.
Woorndoo Mortlake’s netballers had a mixed bag of results, winning three from six games played.
A grade – Woorndoo Mortlake defeated Penshurst 46-24. Best for the Tigers: Brooke Richardson.
B grade – Woorndoo Mortlake defeated Penshurst 40-25. Best for the Tigers: Shona Makepeace and Abbey Burford.
C grade – Woorndoo Mortlake lost to Penshurst 21-23. Best players: Melanie Dyson and Lily Burford.
18 and under – Woorndoo Mortlake defeated Penshurst 41-23. Best players: Lily Schuuring.
15 and under – Woorndoo Mortlake lost to Penshurst 22-35. Best for the Tigers: Ava Wardlaw.
13 and under – Woorndoo Mortlake lost to Penshurst 20-22. Best players: Lacey Killen and Layla Wardlaw.
