Tigers run continues

DERRINALLUM continued its strong start to the season in the Grenville Cricket Association, registering a five wicket win over local rivals Lismore on Saturday.

Batting first in the match at the Lismore Recreation Reserve, the home team managed 9/187 from its 40 overs.

Teenage opener Cooper Cahill led the way for Lismore, making 52 from 59 balls with six fours and a six.

“Cooper gave us a good start, he likes to score quickly and put the bowlers on the back foot,” Lismore captain Clint Dudman said.

“Unfortunately, we couldn’t capitalise on that with a middle order collapse.”

Derrinallum seamers Paul Brisbane and Ben Carr played a big role in running through the Lismore middle order.

Brisbane took 2/29 from eight overs, with Carr taking the bowling honours with 4/25 from eight overs.

“Ben has turned himself from an off-spinner to a good medium pace,” Derrinallum captain Ned Uren said.

“He gets a bit of movement and skids them through, he was our best bowler by a mile.”

In reply, Derrinallum batted well to pass the score in the 33rd over five wickets down.

Uren top scored with 55 from 64 balls with five fours and two sixes, with all other batsmen making double figures.

“Everyone batted well, not many risks were taken, the score kept ticking along nicely,” Uren said.

“It was a good win and always pleasing to beat Lismore.”

Cooper Cahill rounded out a good game for the home team, being the best of the Lismore bowlers with 1/33 from eight overs.

“We just didn’t have the bowlers and struggled to break their partnerships,” Dudman said.

“Despite it being wet Cooper bowled well.”

This week Lismore will play Rokewood at Rokewood, while Lexton have already forfeited tomorrow’s game against Derrinallum.

The Tigers have a bye the following week, with their next game not until November 15.

In the under 16s, Linton had a 32 run win over Derrinallum, while Lismore, led by 53 retired to Jack Fay, had a 23 run win over Rokewood.
