A FOUR goal opening quarter from the Simpson Tigers last weekend got the home side off to a strong start against Irrewarra-Beeac.

Facing the third-placed Bombers on Saturday, the Tigers showed some good passages of play and defensive pressure all over the ground against a tough opponent.

To their credit, the Tigers went into the main break just 35 points down but a six-goal haul in the second half from the visitors – while the home side added just two goals, two – saw the Bombers run home 65-point victors.

Final scores were Irrewarra-Beeac 17.13.115 to Simpson 8.2.50.

Best for the Tigers were Lachlan Bass, Matthew Drayton, Jono Jennings, Ryan Mulder, Brenton De Jong and Jesse Gallichan.

Nicholas Harding added four goals to the scoreboard, while Lochie Hawkins kicked two and Jack Finn and Darcy Leishman booted one goal each.

Simpson’s reserves enjoyed a 38-point win over Irrewarra-Beeac and currently sit fourth on the ladder, 11.8.74 to 5.6.36.

Luke Kensit, Samuel Newcombe, Cody Mason, Jason Kordupel, Sam Rial and Noah Ackerley were in the best for the Tigers.

Goal kickers were Drew Kordupel (3), Sam Rix (2) and one each from Noah Ackerley, Shaun Guy, Jack Hawkes, Rohan Johns, Cody Mason and David Weel.

Simpson’s under 18s went down to Irrewarra-Beeac 5.2.32 to 13.14.92.

Austin de Bie, Bodhi Crole, Oliver Rial, Isaac Holland, Jack Balcombe and Tyson Balcombe were all named best for the Tigers while Harry Fleming (2), Riley Costin, Isaac Holland and Darcy Salter all added to the scoreboard.

Netball results were as follows:

A grade lost to Irrewarra-Beeac 56-30. Best players: Hayley Coulson, Holly Duynhoven and HollyKordupel.

B grade – Simpson was defeated 30-61. Best players Melissa Drayton, Pippa Jones and Maddi Cunnington.

C grade – Simpson was defeated 20-55. Best: Hannah Woods, Rebecca Weel and Bernadette Bellman.

D grade – Simpson was defeated 32-31. Best players: Carly Newcombe, Georgia Arndell and Kirah Turri.

17 and under – Simpson drew with Irrewarra-Beeac 33-all. Best: Krystal Blain, Shelby Cameron and Ismaela Ford.

15 and under – Simpson was defeated 10-45. Best: Olivia Rhode, Shayla Daniels and Kaylee Jansen.

13 and under – Simpson lost 21-33. Best players: Milah Crole, Tyra Sambell and Tara Robertson.
