Tigers take it to reigning premiers
A BIG last quarter has seen Simpson get within eight points of upsetting reigning premiers Alvie in the round five Colac and District senior football match.
Down by 27 points at the last change, the Tigers kicked four goals to one in the last quarter as Alvie ran out 8.17.65 to 9.9.57 winners at the Alvie Recreation Reserve.
Key forward Jarrod Garth led the Tigers goal kickers with three, with Reagan Jones, Gus Hawkes, Lochie Hawkins, Brenton De Jong, Sam Rial and Jayden Gass best.
In the reserves fixture, Simpson scored its second win of the season, 9.8.62 to 5.6.36.
Darcy Thorburn, Cooper Neal and Patrick Armstrong were best for Simpson in the win, with Darcy Thorburn kicking three goals and Tyson Balcombe and Harry Fleming two goals each.
The under 15s game saw Alvie win by four points, 4.7.31 to 3.9.27.
Best for Simpson were Ben Vogels, Jyda Randle and Lucas Woolstencroft with Vogels, Randle and Cooper Beecher kicking a goal each.
In the under 12 football, Simpson had a four point win, 3.7.25 to 3.3.21.
Kaiden Teal kicked two goals and Carter McVilly one for the junior Tigers.
Simpson’s A grade netballers trailed all day, going down 52-47.
Holly Duynhoven, Eliza Duynhoven and Amy Pemberton were Simpson’s best, with Eliza Duynhoven shooting 24 goals and Shelby Cameron 20 in the loss.
The B grade game saw Alvie record a 36-33 win.
Sophie Cronin, Sienna Chivell and Samantha Holland were best for Simpson, with Jessie Harding shooting 21 goals.
Simpson’s C grade team had a strong 52-23 win.
Chloe Cameron, Rachael Duynhoven and Isabelle Robertson were best for the Tigers, with Duynhoven and Kayla Hallyburton both shooting 26 goals.
The D grade game also went Simpson’s way, the Tigers winning 38-22.
Leesa Seabrook, Kaylee Jansen and Rebecca Foster were best, with Brianna Ferrari scoring 23 goals and Foster 15.
The 17 and under game saw Simpson score a 39-33 win.
Best for the Tigers were Tyra Sambell, India Edwards and Gabrielle Montano,with Kustom Robertson scoring 21 goals and Esha Crole 18.
Simpson won the 15 and under game 30-14.
River Rothery, Charlie Wilson and Imogen McVilly were best for the Tigers, with Rothery shooting 16 goals and Keisha McVilly shooting 14 goals.
The 13 and under game saw Alvie score a 31-12 victory.
Lotus Rothery, Alexis Barake and Charlotte Pascoe were Simpson’s best, with Peyton Robertson scoring eight goals.
Simpson’s teams have this week off as part of the split round, and return on May 23 against Colac Imperials at the Western Reserve.
