Tigers tamed by Bulls, Terang lose to Cobden

WOORNDOO could not overcome a sterling individual effort with the bat by Pomborneit’s Tom Place, falling 115 runs short of the Bulls at home last Saturday.
Pomborneit’s first innings total of 7/261 was too much for Woorndoo, with the home side struggling to 6/146.
After winning the toss Pomborneit batted first, and openers Place (132) and Steven Murphy (24) got straight to work, forming a 60-run partnership to begin the innings.
Woorndoo’s Jason Fowler and Tyler Schafer took wickets throughout, but were expensive, with figures of 3/61 and 3/49 respectively.
Jake Fowler eventually claimed Place’s wicket in the dying overs of Pomborneit’s innings, but at 7/259 the damage was done.
Jason Fowler (41) was the best of the Tigers with the bat, putting together a 51-run partnership with the unbeaten Lachlan Jubb (21 n.o.), but Woorndoo could not score at anywhere near the pace required to challenge the Bulls for the match.
Terang travelled to Cobden for a match under lights and was in with a good chance after restricting the Knights to 9/139 in the first innings.
Liam Geary took 3/15 in his nine overs, and Tyson Hay and Bailey Kavenagh had two wickets each.
The Goats started the run chase confidently, with Geary shepherding his fellow batsmen towards 100 before falling to Jackson Rock at 5/96.
However, Terang’s lower order underwent a total collapse, losing its last five wickets for only 15 runs, falling short by 28 runs to finish all out for 111.
With only two rounds to go, neither Woorndoo nor Terang can qualify for finals, but will still be looking to perform well to finish off the season.
In other matches this round, Heytesbury Rebels defeated Camperdown, and Noorat lost at home to Bookaar.
