THE Power is hanging on to fourth spot on the Warrnambool District ladder despite a loss to Merrivale last weekend.
The undefeated Tigers proved too strong for Kolora Noorat on the Power’s home ground last Saturday, despite a slow start.
The first quarter saw the home side make full use of the ball, kicking four goals two to the Tigers’ one behind.
Merrivale stepped it up a notch in the second, adding three goals two while restricting the home side to two majors – cutting the margin to 18 points at the main break.
While the third term was a low-scoring affair, the fourth saw the Tigers keep the home side scoreless while adding three goals seven.
Final scores were Merrivale 7.13.55 to Kolora Noorat 6.6.42.
Best for the Power were Ryan O’Connor, Jarrod Evans, Fred Beasley, Benjamin Moloney and Ed Lee.
Samuel Kenna kicked two goals for Power, while Paddy Baker, Sam Uwland and Darcy Vick contributed one apiece.
With 10 rounds now complete, the race towards finals will be a tight one, with only percentage separating fourth from sixth, and a game between third and fourth.
In the reserves last weekend, Kolora Noorat found the going tough against the Tigers, going down by 98-points, 3.2.20 to 18.10.118.
Best for the Power were Brad Coleman, Jack Carlin, George Beasley, Jehrin Bateman, Lucas Castersen and Anthony Coxon.
Beasley kicked two goals while Nathan Gee contributed one.
Kolora Noorat’s under 18s remain undefeated at the top of the ladder following a huge 108-point win over Merrivale, 16.19.115 to 1.1.7.
Max Kavanagh, Isaac Byron, Eitan Brooks, Ted Kenna, Ben Carlin and Cooper Dunn were named best for Power.
Tyler Barrett, Isaac Cootesmith, Max Kavanagh and Ted Kenna each kicked two goals, while singles were kicked by Ben Carlin, Cooper Dunn, Bohdi Gill, Jackson Gill, Fraser Guthrie, Benjamin
Henderson, Alexander Kenna and Hamish Molan.
The Powers’ netballers had a tough round against Merrivale, winning just one of the six games played.
A grade – Kolora Noorat lost to Merrivale 48-49.
A reserve – Kolora Noorat lost to Merrivale 30-60.
B grade – Kolora Noorat lost to Merrivale 30-36.
17 and under – Kolora Noorat defeated Merrivale 28-24.
15 and under – Kolora Noorat lost to Merrivale 14-38.
13 and under – Kolora Noorat lost to Merrivale 10-24.
Kolora Noorat will head to Walter Oval this Saturday for round 11 action against South Rovers.
