TIMBOON Bowling Club’s midweek division one pennant side has become regional champions.

The team celebrated its new title last week after defeating Far Western Districts (Coleraine) on Tuesday morning before overcoming Corangamite (Colac City) that afternoon.

According to Timboon club president Lorelle Saunders the victory was a great team effort.

“We as a club are extremely proud of all those who played last week,” she said.

“As far as I know this is the first time we’ve won the regional title and we’re now really looking forward to taking that extra step.

“Last week’s competition was played undercover at City Memorial in Warrnambool so the weather didn’t really play a part,” Lorelle said.

“It was an impressive victory by all accounts; our side defeated Coleraine by 47 points and Corangamite by 24 points.”

Timboon had three rink wins in the morning and in the afternoon produced two rink wins and a one shot loss on the third.

The Timboon side comprised of Arthur Finch, Pam Dwyer, Noelene Richards, Gary Duro, Gill Vorwerk, Jan Clover, Barry Bowan, Max Saunders, Geoff Bedggood, Sandra Trigg, Jim Trigg and Fiona Newey.

The team will head to Moama next month where it will represent the region at the State Pennant Winners Finals.

The competition will take place on April 26-27.
