In the first round, Timboon Lawn (Shon Berry and Jason Mungean) had the bye but there were three other games in the first round.
Cobden’s David Childs and Glenn Cain progress to the semi-final against Timboon Lawn after defeating Camperdown’s Gary Body and Lois Johnstone, 21-3.
Simpson’s Gary Langenhuizen and Harvey Robbins defeated Laang-Ecklin’s Ken Buck and Kathryn Wines 17-8.
Scotts Creek (Peter Baker and Trevor Hobbs) defeated Glenormiston (Ron Heard and Rita Pasque) 15-12.
In the semi-finals Timboon Lawn defeated Cobden 19-12 and booked a place in the grand final.
In the second semi-final, Simpson went down to Scotts Creek, 6-19.
The grand final between Timboon Lawn and Scotts Creek was a pleasure to watch despite the late finishing time.
Both sides started off with a pair of singles either way for the opening four ends of the match.
Even with doubles either way, the scores were still locked at four-all after six ends.
Scotts Creek picked up a pair of singles on the next two ends to lead by as many with six ends to play.
Timboon Lawn replied with a single to arrest the momentum albeit momentarily until Scotts Creek picked up another double on ends 10 to maintain a three-shot lead with four ends to play.
Scotts Creek picked up a single on the replay to lead by five shots with three ends left to play.
Timboon Lawn dug in and fought hard and their efforts were rewarded with a fiver to level the score at 10-all with two ends to play.
The score doesn’t truly reflect the level of bowls played.
Timboon Lawn took the title, defeating Scotts Creek, 15-10.
Congratulations to the 2023 HIBBA Pairs Champions, Timboon Lawn – Shon Berry (s) and Jason Mungean and well done to runners-up Scotts Creek – Peter Baker (s) and Trevor Hobbs.
Good luck to Allen Armistead, Arthur Finch, Peter Baker, Brett Mungean, Noah Mungean, Pam Wines, Pam Dwyer, Lara Mungean and junior Harmony at the upcoming nations.
The Heytesbury Triples Tournament is on Wednesday, August 16 at 7.30pm in Simpson.
On a sombre note, members of Heytesbury Indoor Bowls Association are saddened by the passing of Nola Duncan, a handy bowler and someone who didn’t beat around the bush.
Members will miss you Nola and extend condolences to the Duncan family.
