DURING a recent visit to the Timboon Lions Club the then-district governor Tom Blair presented long-service chevrons to several of its members.

John Oldfield received his award directly from Mr Blair at the club’s changeover dinner.

The club paid particular tribute to the long year of service to the community by club members John Oldfield and John Wilson who have served 50 and 40 years respectively.

“The club was established 55 years ago so you can imagine the enormous contribution these two stalwarts have made to the huge variety of projects and services undertaken during this time,” club member David Gamble said.

“What’s more, they have unstintingly contributed not only their labour but also their enthusiasm which they have always given along with a keen sense of fun.

“Both Mr Oldfield and Mr Wilson are well known members of the community and are often still seen around the town.”

Mr Wilson has been confined to a wheelchair for some time now but he continues to help sell raffle tickets and Lions cakes when he can.

“Although the club is doing all it can to attract younger members we must not forget that, without the sterling contributions made by the two long serving members over the years, there might not be a Timboon Lions Club for younger people to join,” MrGamble said.
