THIS is Timboon Lions Club’s first news article for 2022 and March/April seems to be a particularly busy period for us this year.

There is no denying that our membership has, through aging and the passing away of many of the club’s long-term stalwarts, become greatly reduced.

Credit, therefore, should go to those members who have put their backs to the wheel coping with our current busy schedule.

Perhaps the most demanding job has been to deliver Corangamite Shire tidy bags to every family or property in Timboon.

By dividing the work among five teams the packages were assembled and driven to every letterbox or veranda within the township.

Lions firmly believe that turning discarded food scraps into compost makes a worthwhile contribution to the environment.

Last year the Timboon Lions Beach Treasure Hunt made a highly successful and popular contribution to the Port Campbell Crayfish Festival. Needless to say we have repeated it again this year.

At last we are able to resume our monthly wood raffles outside the Timboon IGA. Along with our recent hay drives, cake and mint sales, the raffles play an important part in raising money for our services to the community and contributions to Lions and the other charitable causes we support.

Also the raffles help to raise our profile in the community and will always help to keep alive the memory of the late Lion Peter Murphy who did so much to embody the spirit of Lionism among us.

We will be using our caravan to cater at Lion Max Anderson’s forthcoming clearance sale at his former Brucknell property.

Due to the pandemic Timboon P-12 School was unable to finish awarding the Lion’s Club Annual Scholarship Program at the end of last year. We are informed that this will or has been currently attended to.

Altogether it can be seen that the above makes for a busy couple of months for a small club and, as usual, we are always looking for more community minded folk to join us in the fun we have in serving our fellow citizens.

If you are one of these, just contact Hans Kruse on 5598 6532 or David Gamble 5501 9738.
