Timboon Lions Club Notes
AT present we at Timboon Lions Club are finding it hard to carry out all the activities and projects that we would like to do for our community.
We simply do not have enough members to carry them out. Nevertheless, it is perhaps surprising what we have managed to achieve so far this year.
We have been a stall holder at most of the Timboon Action Farmers Markets, held a barbecue at a Port Campbell clearance sale, hosted the Lions District Zone Meeting and, with help from the Port Campbell Surf Lifesaving Club and Corangamite Shire, held our popular Beach Treasure Hunt as part of the annual Port Campbell Crayfest.
Our used battery collections and Lions cake sales are doing well and continue to keep the club afloat.
Of particular interest to us has been the bridge being built across Powers Creek to connect Timboon Ice Creamery with the Brewery Restaurant.
It has provided us with an opportunity to help refurbish the area around the Lions barbecue shelter and make the whole precinct more attractive for locals and visitors.
A joint Timboon/Simpson Lions dinner meeting will be held this month at the Timboon Thai Restaurant. This is very much in keeping with the Lions organisation’s policy of encouraging its clubs to combine when appropriate to exchange ideas and maximise their strengths.
Late in May we are hoping to hold a sausage sizzle for the public on the Timboon Town Green.
Many Lions clubs in our district have held similar events, called “Lions Awareness Days”. It’s an effort to inform people about what Lions do and perhaps encourage them to join their clubs.
In partnership with the Timboon Recreation Reserve we are in the early stage of planning a revival of the Lions annual Trash and Treasure Day, perhaps to be held early next year.
We now hold our monthly business meetings at Aberlea House and we are very grateful to the management for making their excellent meeting room available to us.
It cannot be emphasised too strongly that if the Timboon Lions Club is to survive and carry on its tradition of providing outstanding service to both the local and broader communities, it must attract more members.
The date for our Lions Awareness Day will soon be advertised and we request as many people as possible to come along and find out what a great organisation Lions is.
Also, if you want to know more about the club, you have only to ring David Gamble on 5501 9738.
