PRESIDENT Sue welcomed all members, guests Gary Castledine and Sabine McKenzie, Bernadette Moloney and Maureen Turner.

Members this morning were treated to an alarming look at our hospital and the necessary requirements that are needed to keep it running smoothly.

Guest speaker Gary Castledine, the chief executive officer at Timboon and District Healthcare Service and Sabine McKenzie who is the publicity officer, explained the changes to the health service where, for several reasons, the service has made the decision to close the theatre at Timboon.

Those in need of this health service will now need to travel to specific areas, mainly locally, to access their medical needs. If a patient is unable to drive or be driven to this location, the health service will facilitate transport.

Gary spoke on the proposed use of the community bus, without competing with our local bus company.

However, the required specific insurance and licensed drivers necessary for the use of the bus, is not helping speed up the process of making it available easily.

Further discussion of the proposed support for providing traineeship and/or University support for future local staff, and also our current staff, was given, and questions from our members were answered.

We were grateful that Gary was able to clarify any problems and concerns we thought may arise from the health service changes in our district.

Before beginning the business side of the morning, new member Bernadette Moloney was formally introduced to the members and welcomed into the Timboon Probus Club.

President Sue read out the Probus Ideals and presented her with her certificate and badge. Welcome Bernadette.

Tributes were then made for Faye Treagea, a former member of the club.

For several years we thoroughly enjoyed Faye’s morning teas at Probus.

Although she was ill off and on throughout her life, she always enjoyed the times with her family and John. Vale Faye.

Reports during the meeting included an invitation from Cobden Probus, to attend the Combined Probus Get-together in October at the Cobden Bowls Club.

An annual gathering with surrounding Probus Clubs where we enjoy an exchange of ideas, activities and general discussion, hosted by a different club each year.

Membersenjoyed their discovery of the local shops in Timboon recently.

Something was purchased at each destination, other than a property or house. But we are more aware of the current situation with house and land sales in Timboon from one of our local agencies.

Reminders were given for the upcoming trip to Melbourne for “Moulin Rouge” on September 6.

Two members each made nine right guesses for the footy recently and all members were reminded that the next meeting in September is our “footy” day and so its footy beanies and/or colours – pies, hot dogs and club theme songs

Also reminders that we can now start to think about new office bearers for next year.

Perhaps you can ‘give it a go’ for some ‘part’ - everybody helps everybody out one way or another and it’s a wonderful experience.

Untill next meeting – see you there.
