TIMBOON Probus Club president Sue welcomed members, including forthcoming member Bernadette Moloney and guest speakers Eric Read and his wife Jacinta.
Tributes were paid to late member, Barbara Dickerson, who passed away recently.
Barbara produced a very informative and entertaining monthly Club Newsletter for some years and also helped out regularly with the catering crew.
Warm winter holidays up north have made an impression on the number of members present and also winter wogs.
Get well cards have been sent to Joan, Lyn, Louise, Alison and Faye.
Eric Read, ventriloquist, entertainer, and along with Jacinta, song writer, were introduced to everyone.
He began by demonstrating how he used Whitey (a ‘mechanical’ whiteboard) with moving mouth and eyes.
Eric, or Ecka, as his “little people” called him, kept us well amused with banter between himself and Sparky.
Sparky was a cute fellow with a bright rain bow jacket.
After his performance it was quite disturbing to see Sparky lying on top of his suitcase!
We were also shown Eric’s ability to change his voice when he brought on the flamboyant Rosie, who sang to us.
Eric sang one of his many songs written by himself and Jacinta, then finally singing “We are Australian” where many joined in the chorus.
We all enjoyed this different form of entertainment.
Members also enjoyed a great show from the Camperdown Theatre Group on Saturday afternoon and interest has been expressed for a group to journey by Christians Bus to Moulin Rouge on September 6.
The Dining Out Group have arranged to meet at the Flying Horse and Brewery on July 20 and “Christmas in July” at the Camperdown Hampden Hotel on July 18.
Chocolates for the footy tipping leaders were given out, mainly to the lady tipsters. In fact, the top four were all ladies. Come on fellas, lift up your game.
After general business, members were invited to “show and tell” about their lives.
Some very interesting facts emerged, including new great-grandparents; members running marathons as well as sons, and a daughter still running marathons at 59 years old.
Of course, what really took the prize was the fact that Neville’s cow had just had a calf!! A very happy way to end a successful meeting.
Next meeting is at the Timboon Golf Club on Monday, July 3 at 10am.
