Timboon Probus Club Notes
THE recent Timboon Probus Club meeting stated relatively quietly with no guest speaker arranged.

THE recent Timboon Probus Club meeting stated relatively quietly with no guest speaker arranged.
However, the brains trust of the club had arranged a quiz of events fixtures and names around the main perimeter of our area in sport and activities.
Much laughter, funny answers and surprising knowledge immerged, and it turned out to be a very relaxing and entertaining morning.
The following week members enjoyed a bus trip to the Great Ocean Road Wildlife Park.
Travelling in a large school bus, we enjoyed the scenery and the ride, arriving at the park where Yosef Lasarow spoke to us for half an hour explaining the true nature of the Dingo as an apex predator and the importance of it in the Australian eco-system.
Following the Autumn mating season, many female Dingoes will be pregnant.
Gestation takes about nine weeks, and the litters (usually between three to six) are cared for during the winter months.
There are three types of Dingoes – Tropical, Desert and Alpine. Yosef explained the working of a family group- the matriarch dingo (or her mate) will kill any other Dingoes born in the group allowing those mothers to help care for the matriarch’s pups.
As the Dingo is at the top of the “food chain” it is able to regulate the number of Australian animals from breeding “plague” proportions e.g. Kangaroos, Rats and Mice.
We found the Dingoes very compelling to look at, a wonderful, friendly animal. Beautifully clean and healthy.
We spent time looking at the other animals, which included wallabies, kangaroo, wombat, parrots, pademelons, fallow and red deer, Wiltipoll sheep, peacock and peahens.
We then stopped for soup or a slice with a cuppa.
Then the following week, members enjoyed a lovely lunch at Allansford, and then the following week a group travelled by Christians Bus to Melbourne to a wonderful show “Moulin Rouge”.
Coming up is our annual get together Friendship Day with Camperdown and Cobden Clubs in Cobden on October 23.
Our footy tipping reached a final, not quite the grand final, but near enough. Much to his amazement, the tipping was won by our learned treasurer, Graeme Murfett, but the ladies redeemed themselves with Nola Mitchell coming second and Joan McKenzie third.
Lots of ribbing and laughter throughout the year, and special thanks to Jean and Barrie Giblett for organising and keeping all the records and figures.
Next meeting we have an exercise physiologist from Timboon and District Healthcare Service, which considering the fact we have had two knee and one hip operations among our members in the last month, will be very beneficial.
