Timboon Probus Club Notes
PRESIDENT Charles welcomed all members and guest Elaine Bowen and guest speaker Stephen Mueller and his wife to our meeting.
A number of apologies were received this time as some of the members have been affected by the cold weather and flu.
However, after being introduced by Charles, our guest speaker presented a very interesting talk and video of his experiences as a local Black Fish breeder.
Stephen is from Elingamite, and he followed a dream of breeding and releasing Black Fish back into local waterways and is now acknowledged as a Black Fish breeder.
He told us how, after 14 years of trial and error and expense, his achievement is now recognised by Victorian Fisheries Authority. And apparently the fish have their own personalities too, especially the first fish he was able to keep the eggs and breed from.
He hopes one day to be able to have groups to visit and see his workings.
After another lovely morning tea, business as usual.
The club sadly accepted the resignation from long-time member Mary O’Connor, and also sent a letter to the Terang Probus Club acknowledging its 20th anniversary.
In early May, 14 members enjoyed a very healthy walk on a lovely day, along the Timboon-Port Campbell Rail Trail to the Schulz Cheesery and then coffee, scones and cream.
After a rest and chat, some of the more energetic members then walked back to the base again and the remaining walkers were driven back. All enjoyed the peace and serenity of the walk along the trail.
Approximately 12 members are flying to King Island for five days in November and they met with the Travel Consultant Tanya Campbell, after our meeting and lunch at the hotel. Arrangements are going well, and all are looking forward to the tour together.
Next meeting our guest speaker will be Rob Thorpe, the son-in-law of two of our members, who will tell us about his experiences in the car industry.
Also in the pipe-line, is a proposed outing to Cooriemungle Camp for lunch and talk on the history of the old prison farm.
Footy tips are progressing with John H having a perfect score in round seven, but two of the ladies aren’t far behind.
And next meeting is the time to wear your favourite beanie – yes, beanie!! Not necessarily a footy beanie, as this is for later in the season. So, use your imagination.
And special happy birthdays were sung for Hazel who is 90 and Frannie at 80. Young at heart forever.
Next meeting will be on June 3 at 10am at the Timboon Golf Club. All welcome, with or without your beanie.
