Timboon Transfer Station opens

AFTER a huge infrastructure upgrade, Timboon Transfer Station officially re-opened for business last week.

The $700,000 project has improved safety, efficiency and convenience for residents.

Corangamite Shire councillor Jamie Vogels said the upgrade would provide a safe and sustainable interface for waste and resource recovery.

“We thank the community for their patience while the temporary transfer station was in place but I’m sure everyone will agree the end result is a huge improvement,” he said.

“The transfer station now has a one-way loop layout to minimise any hazard from vehicles crossing paths.

“The surface has been levelled and spray-sealed, and drainage improved.

“Line marking will have to wait a few weeks while the spray seal seasons properly.

“We just ask people to drive sensibly in the meantime.”

Mr Vogels said there is now more capacity for collecting and separating materials so recyclables don’t end up in landfill.

“We’ve also refurbished the retaining wall so it will be good for another 20 or 30 years,” he said.

“Importantly, the new layout will be more easily adapted in future as best practice waste and resource management and legislation evolve.”

Timboon Transfer Station is open on Wednesdays and Fridays from 1-3.30pm and Sundays from 2-5pm.
