Timboon transfer station upgrade
TIMBOON’S transfer station will get a key upgrade, with the facility nearing its end of life.
Corangamite Shire Council voted to award a contract for the upgrade works to CIVELITE Pty Ltd at a cost of $633,432 at the recent council meeting.
Shire water and sustainability officer Jessica Maxwell said the Timboon transfer station provides Timboon and surrounding communities with affordable waste and recycling services.
“The current infrastructure at the site is nearing its end of life,” she said.
“An upgrade of the facility is planned to future proof the site for the next 20 plus years, increase the number of waste streams that can be collected and recovered, and improve safety and amenity for staff and customers.
“Council advertised a tender to engage a contractor to undertake the transfer station upgrades, including the supply and installation of retaining walls, screw piers and related infrastructure.”
Four tender submissions were received, with CIVELITE Pty Ld receiving the highest overall score in the evaluation process.
“Council has allocated $700,000 (plus GST) in the budget to complete the Timboon transfer station upgrades,” Ms Maxwell said.
“This budget includes completion of the civil works and provision for a temporary facility while construction is underway.”
Councillors unanimously supported awarding the contract to CIVELITE Pty Ltd.
“I think the council is getting good value,” Cr Ruth Gstrein said.
“I think they will do a great job.”
Cr Jamie Vogels agreed and said CIVELITE Pty Ltd would do a “fabulous job”.
“As things get old they need to get replaced or upgraded or refurbished to comply with new rules and regulations,” he said.
