Dobbins (Senior Star of the Year) and Conheady (Junior Star of the Year) were presented with their awards at a special dinner at the Cobden Golf Club on Tuesday night.

Talented shooter Fiona Dobbins, who was recently part of the Australian team that won the team shoot event in the UK, has an impressive sporting resume.

She won bronze at the Bywell International Challenge in England in July with a score of 279 from 300 shots.

As a result, Fiona was an emergency for the Australian women’s team (which took out the silver medal) at the World Down the Line titles.

Not needed for the team’s event, Fiona entered the ladies’ championship and is now ranked in the top 10 in the world.

The Junior Team of the Year award went to Mercy Regional College. Receiving the award were players Aidan Conheady and Lenny Stephens, with Darren Cheesman.

Aidan Conheady, fresh off his win in New Zealand with the Australian 17 and under men’s netball team, was a popular choice for the Junior Star of the Year award.

His international victory adds to his growing list of achievements on the court.

This includes a grand final victory in the 17 and under boys national championships in Brisbane earlier this year (where he was awarded MVP in the grand final and named in the All-Star team).

The Junior Team of the Year award went to Mercy Regional College’s football side while the senior team award went to Timboon Maroon Lawns Bowls
