Sixteen year-old Ponting, in his last season in the class, also won the state’s junior drivers’ aggregate and will now look to race Sprintcars in season 2025/26.

This was his second championship title in as many years, reflecting his skill and commitment to the sport.

Ponting first began racing at the age of four, in the junior quarter midgets, enjoying success each season.

Season 2024/25 was another huge one for Ponting who took home eight chequered flags – and made 14 podium appearances – from his 17 starts.

He is now looking forward to the challenge of Sprintcar racing and is preparing for his first venture in November at Warrnambool’s Premier Speedway.

Fellow Cobden junior Hugo Chivell also celebrated another steady year in the junior ranks, picking up third in the Stampede series and finishing second overall in the drivers’ aggregate.

With these results, the 14 year-old will be looking for another big year this upcoming season in the junior division as a top-aged racer.

He is also expected to turn his attention to Sprintcar racing, the following season.

Both boys are students at Mercy Regional College, Camperdown.
