Top side too strong

TERANG Mortlake’s senior netballers were outclassed by top side, South Warrnambool, last weekend.
“It was a tough game; South Warrnambool is on top for a reason – they’re a strong, tall, fast side and we just couldn’t match it for the game’s entirety,” senior coach Sharon Kenna said.
“Like many games this year, we went out firing in the first half and played some really good netball but we just couldn’t maintain that level of intensity for the full four quarters."
“But credit to the girls, they never gave up and they fought it out.”
Kenna said the team was without Eboni Knight on Saturday but they were hopeful she’d be fit to return this weekend.
“We will go into Saturday’s game as determined as ever and hopefully play some good netball and see how it pans out.”
Final scores in last Saturday’s open match were Terang Mortlake 35 to South Warrnambool 67.
Best for Terang Mortlake were Jacqui Arundell, Aimee Moloney and Madeline Solly.
Division one had a great battle and matched well with South, going down by just two goals, 30-32.
Jessica Baxter, Sarah Davis and Ashleigh Hunger were named best on court.
Division two also put in a solid performance to get within 13 goals, 26-39. Best on court honours went to Ashleigh Hunger, Stacey Boyd and April Harris.
The Bloods’ division three side found the going tough, defeated 14-39. Olivia O’Brien, Zoe Barker and Harriet Place named best.
And in the junior matches, the three teams were unable to notch up a win.
The 17 and under side lost 26-35, 15 and unders 20-35 (Lara Clarke best on court) and the 13 and unders lost 16-26 (Lyla Grundy named best).
Terang Mortlake will meet second-placed Cobden this Saturday for the final round of the Hampden League home and away season.
