TWO Terang Tornadoes representative sides recently tasted success.

The Tornadoes under 16 girls and under 18 boys teams took out the division five grand finals at the Basketball Vic Country (BVC) Country Championships last month.

The boys side contested Pool A of the division three and section but started slowly, opening the championships with a 51-41 loss to Korumburra Wildcats before rebounding with a 79-44 victory over Melton Thoroughbreds.

The Tornadoes then suffered a 62-57 defeat to Yarrawonga-Mulwala Lakers, before defeating Macedon Ranges 43-33.

The side’s 2-2 record was enough to see them finish in third position, with the Tornadoes then defeating Myrtleford Saints 56-41 in the semi-final to reach the division five decider.

In the grand final, the Tornadoes were too strong for Whittlesea Eagles, recording a 46-28 victory on the back of a 21 point performance from Xavier Vickers.

The girls also contested division three and four of the championships.

They too started slowly, losing their first three games against Leongatha Lightning 46-42, Mildura Heat 40-36 and Morwell Magic 48-39.

A strong 65-34 victory in the final pool match against Melton Thoroughbreds saw the side finish fifth in pool D.

They qualified for the division five grand final against Swan Hill Flyers, a match they won 44-25.

The under 16 girls also took out the division five section of their age group, defeating Swan Hill Flyers in the grand final.
