Tough day for Ecklin

IT was a tough day out for Ecklin’s cricketers on Saturday, copping a 272 run belting from Bookaar.

Bookaar batted first in the match at Frederick St oval, piling on 6/346 from their 50 overs.

Stuart Timms was the Frogs’ only bowler to go at less than four an over, taking 1/39 from 10 overs, with captain Jamie Dewell the only multiple wicket taker with 2/61.

In reply, Ecklin was rolled for just 74 in the 19th over.

Harry Bee, with 32 from 35 balls, and Henry Carrol with 13 were the only Frogs to reach double figures.

This week Ecklin will have another tough opponent when it plays Birregurra at Birregurra.

Ecklin’s division two team had the bye, while in division three, the Frogs had a big 110 run win over Boorcan.

Batting first at Timboon High School, Ecklin made 6/251 from its 40 overs.

Opener Murray Ellerton top scored with 90 from 93 balls, hitting three sixes and two fours, while Pat Sloane hit 67 from 45 balls, with three sixes and six fours.

Boorcan replied with 8/141 from 40 overs.

Tim Gubbins took 3/5 from three overs for Ecklin, with Sam Carroll taking two wickets.

Ecklin’s women started their season on Wednesday night, registering a strong win over Cobden Blue at South Purrumbete.

Batting first, Ecklin didn’t lose a wicket in their 20 overs, finishing at 0/113.

Opener Kelly Gowland top scored with 31 retired from 42 balls, fellow opener Claire Wines retired on 18 with Rachel O'Keeffe and Melissa Benson both ending up not out on 21 and 14 respectively.

In reply Cobden Blue could only manage 5/81.

Claire Wines took 1/24 from four overs, with the other four wickets coming from run outs.

Rachel O’Keeffe bowled a tight spell with the new ball, conceding just five runs from her four overs.

In this week’s games, the division two Frogs host Pomborneit at Ecklin, while the division three Frogs play Pomborneit Maroon at South Purrumbete.

Ecklin’s women play Bookaar at Frederick St oval tonight, while the under 13 boys, coming off the bye, play Bookaar at Ecklin on Monday night.
