Tough night under lights

SATURDAY’S heat abandonment has seen Mortlake Cricket Club’s premier and championship cricket teams scheduled two day matches set to now be one-day matches this weekend.

The premier Cats will play the Northern Raiders at Purnim, while the championship Cats host Spring Creek on the DC Farran Oval turf.

Mortlake’s division three team will host Warrnambool at the Mortlake College Oval.

In round 11 of the women’s competition, Mortlake had a seven wicket loss to Cobden under lights on Friday night at the DC Farran Oval.

Batting first, Mortlake struggled to 8/62 from their 25 overs.

Tracey Baker top scored with 16 from 33 balls, with opener Audrey Ringe making 14 from 23.

Cobden cruised to victory in the 13th over, losing three wickets.

Wynter Bradbury was the best of the Mortlake bowlers with 1/5 from three overs, while Annalise Abbott also took a wicket.

Unable to make the finals, the Mortlake women play their final game of the season this Sunday against Nestles at Wenborn Oval.

The Mortlake/Cobden under 17s scored a strong 151 run win over Port Fairy on day two of their match on Tuesday night.

Defending their massive 326, the combine bowled Port Fairy out for 175 in the 42nd over.

An even bowling preformance saw the wickets shared, Eamon Sloane the only multiple wicket taker with 2/16 from five overs.

This Tuesday Mortlake/Cobden start a two-day game against Warrnambool at Mortlake College.

The Mortlake/Cobden under 15s resume on Friday night as they commence a two-day match against Nestles.
