Debutante Roshen Fernando took a wicket for the Bulls in the opening over of the match, after which Colac got on a roll, flying past fifty in the seventh over before Fernando struck again, bowling Colac opener Liam Cunningham.

“Roshen was very impressive, he bowled with good pace in both of his spells” Pomborneit captain Grant Place said.

Colac reached 91 after 14 overs which led to the introduction of leg-spin duo Lahiru Fernando and Josh Reynolds.

The pair managed to slow the run rate, with Fernando taking 3/12 from his initial six over spell, with Reynolds conceding 23 runs from his first seven overs on his way to 0/46 from 10 straight overs.

“Larry troubled all the batsmen, they struggled to pick him.

“Josh bowled a fantastic spell coming on early, his control was really good, he probably only bowled one bad ball in 10 overs.”

Colac's lower order finished the innings well, the Stallions making 8/265 from their 50 overs, Mulgrew top scoring with 121 from 104 balls, the Bulls rueing some early missed chances.

“We dropped Mulgrew a few times early, any good player given that many chances will make you pay, which he certainly did.”

Lahiru Fernando was the best of the Bulls bowlers with 4/34 from his 10 overs, with Roshen Fernando taking 4/38 from 10.

A second wicket partnership of 80 between Tim and Grant Place gave the Bulls some hope, but after both were dismissed Pomborneit lost wickets on a regular basis.

Tim Place top scored with 50 from 73 balls including five fours and a six.

Grant Place made 36 from 56 balls, with Sam Darcy making 22 as the Bulls were dismissed for 184 in the 43rd over.

“Tim batted well, he got himself in against some good early bowling then was able to up the run rate.

“It needed one or both of us to go on with it after making starts.”

Despite the loss, Place said the Bulls were comfortable with where they were at.

“Take those catches and it's a different game, it's something we'll keep working on and be better at.

“It was a very good game against a good team, we'll be better for the run.”

This week the division one Bulls host Ecklin at the Pomborneit Recreation Reserve, with former skipper Matt Bignell set to return.

Pomborneit's lower grade teams all commence tomorrow, with the division two Bulls playing Heytesbury-Princetown Purple at the Timboon High School Oval, the Pomborneit Gold division three team hosting Boorcan at South Purrumbete and the Pomborneit Maroon division three team playing Woorndoo at Woorndoo.
